Public Notice

Reminder:  Parking is prohibited on Village streets during the following dates/times:
November 1st - March 31st
2:00am - 6:00am

(Village Code § 187-13, Schedule IX, § 187-28)


Please make sure sidewalks are clear of snow and ice by 10:00 am

§ 173-3Ice and snow removal.

No owner or occupant of real property abutting upon any street in this village shall permit ice and snow to remain upon the sidewalk in front thereof later than 10:00 a.m. In the event that any such owner or occupant refuses to remove such snow and ice after due notice so to do by the Director of Public Works and Utilities of this village, any member of the Board of Trustees or police officer, at the option of said Board of Trustees, such snow and ice may be removed from the walk in front of said property and the cost and expense thereof charged against the owner of said land, said sum to be added to the next tax levy and collected in the same manner as provided by law for the collection of taxes.

The Village has at limited number of at-home COVID test kits available for those that are unable to make it to a testing site due to illness or transportation.  Please contact the office during normal business hours if you need a test kit.

Our Village

The Village of Groton, incorporated in 1860, is located in the northeast corner of Tompkins County in the Fingerlakes region of New York State.

Originally, the Village was host to many small industries and was later a home to Smith Corona Typewriter Company from 1909 to 1983. Today there still are a few fine smaller concerns and many of our residents who work in Ithaca and Cortland reside in our Village.


The Village provides fire and police protection, electric, water and sewer utilities and has an active recreation department in conjunction with the Town of Groton. We  have a Municipal Pool at Memorial Park that is open to the public during the summer.

We also have an active Community Development program that has provided many opportunities to our residents and businesses.
